Lucretia

I have a new peice that is promising, by Rembrandt, called Lucretia. It depicts the wife of a Roman nobleman, who was raped and then comitted suicide, choosing death over dishoner. I first saw this painting and the minneapolis art institute. when you stand very close to it, it as almost as if she is fading, and she is blurred. It struck me as being very pure. although I don't really agree with her motives, she had a very pure passion she was willing to die for. Suicide is something only humans can do. We all have to choice of talking our own life. I realized that there was another painting that went with it. It is of Lucretia right before commits the act. At first you think she looks scared, but when you look closer she has a small little smile on her face and she looks calm. With her hand held out in submission almost.

  1. An excellent choice and already a thoughtful analysis.
